Undercity. Paris 2007

I lived in Paris for four years, and between 2006 and 2007 I produced this body of work which was as a result of my encounter and fascination with the Parisian subway. My approach is that of a claustrophobic space, dim lights, moody and tired faces, often times a certain drifitng away of the passengers, as if their minds are on a different journey from the one their body makes. I attempt to capture this mood of heaviness in the "silence" which demarcates people in a space they are forced to share. I photographed consistently for 2 years. This work is in line for a book publication, and have been exhibited as a solo exhibition in Paris and at the 1st Johannesburg artfair in South Africa.
