NZUKOTA: Coming Together | An Intervention in Otobong Nkanga's "Taste of Stone"
emeka okereke
Dec 7, 2020
Nzukota is an Igbo language expression which translates to “coming together”. On the 8th of December 2020, from 6 pm to 8 pm,  Emeka Okereke and Pamela Owusu-Brenyah will animate a gathering in a section of Otobong Nkanga’s exhibition, “There Is No Such Thing As Solid Ground”, at the Gropius Bau Berlin. Nzukota will bring together four individuals presently living, staying or visiting Berlin to reflect on their notion of “Home” as it relates to the state of being “here and elsewhere” – a concept extensively engaged by the Martiniquan-French philosopher, Edouard Glissant, in his seminal work, “Poetics of Relation”. Employing dialogue, readings (poetry and texts) and music, the gathering will create a discursive atmosphere for the weaving of anecdotes, stories and incidents, however fragmented, in connection to the space and disposition of the participants.

Although the event will physically take place in Otobong Nkanga's exhibition (running until 13 December), the intervention will be live-streamed to an online audience.
